Animal-Mech Test

This project was created in early 2018 with the idea to take an animal or insect and convert it to a mechanoid version of itself. Initially, I was deadset on the idea of an aquatic animal such as a shark or squid but after some early tests, I settled on the idea of a scorpion. To put it simply I found scorpions very intriguing due to their carapace already looking somewhat mechanical as well as how creepy they are.

Overall I couldn't find any concept art that struck my fancy so I decided to make something on my own. While I am not the most developed traditional artist, what I produced was more than enough to give me an idea of what this project could be. Moving on with the project was swift and I went forward with gusto.

After some time I ran into an issue where there were not enough secondary or tertiary details along the main section of the body. I decided to break up the body into smaller sections with my own little flair. While it was not part of the idea initially, I decided to go ahead and give this a basic rig.

I am overall happy with the results and the relative success of the rig, while it is limited with its expressions, it functions beyond what I expected considering my limited rigging experience. This project was also a fine way to extend my animation practice beyond my normal humanoid rigs.

Overall this project was a very good way to test all my skills and I am very happy with the results. This was one of my first major projects that lent itself to future problems. I learned quite about myself and the skills that I had at the time. Looking back there are of course things that I would change or adjust but overall I am proud of this project.
