Solo and Group Environments
Group Work (2018)

This was my first major group project. The overall goal was to create our own version of a Blade Runner inspired city. Our class worked in small groups of three people. Overall our first dip into group work did not end well with many individuals in several teams not pulling their own weight. Overall with the short span of two weeks were able to overcome our problems and piece something together. For this assignment, I modeled and textured all assets seen before entering the open square in the scene as well as some basic lighting.

Our second group assignment involved taking assets from "Moana" and doing our best to recreate the look of the island. We were not given much information on how to piece Pixar assets together so using some elbow grease and time we pieced together what we could and made do with what we could. Overall this experience was a great introduction to the unknown problems that can come up during any production. We learned a whole new pipeline on the fly and experimented with new software we had never seen before. There were plenty of problems that we had to work through during this project. My main job during this project was correctly assigning ptex textures, assisting with MASH networks, and some manual set-dressing.
Our third group environment went much better than previous attempts. Overall everyone was getting an understanding of what was expected of us and what we were able to produce. Granted many groups, mine included, bit off more than that we could handle overall, but our results were adequate. This project in particular was difficult for me as I was put into the leadership role. Working with many clashing work styles and personalities was very challenging but I did my best to hold everyone together and accountable for each of their parts. Managing a team was challenging yet rewarding and I learned quite a bit about myself in the process.
Solo Environments (2017)

These two projects were my first solo introduction to environmental projects. I didn't have any sort of reference, so I had to sit down and think about what I wanted to create. Overall I wanted to create a sort of abandoned apartment building set somewhere between a war-torn city or an apocalypse setting. This was also my first time using Substance Painter, so learning this program massively changed my future workflow. This was my first major step into finding my love for working in environments.
